In the first quarter of 2022, the top five entertainment applications on the Android platform in Africa exhibited various trends in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here's a closer look at their performance based on data from Sensor Tower.

Showmax 1.0 saw a significant increase in weekly revenue, starting from $15 in mid-February and reaching approximately $13.8K by the end of March. Weekly downloads fluctuated, peaking at around 417K at the end of January before stabilizing between 98K and 146K throughout March. Active users also varied, with a high of 1.7M at the end of January and a low of 1.3M by the end of March.

Netflix maintained a steady download rate, ranging from 146K to 194K throughout the quarter. Active users showed a slight decline from 3.7M at the end of December to 3.4M by the end of March.

Viu: Dramas, TV Shows & Movies experienced a consistent weekly revenue, hovering around $2.4K to $4.3K. Weekly downloads increased from 79K in mid-January to almost 200K by the end of March. Active users remained relatively stable, ending the quarter at around 1.05M.

YouTube Kids had steady weekly downloads, starting at 100K and reaching up to 146K by the end of March. Active users showed a positive trend, increasing from 1M at the end of December to approximately 1.15M by the end of March.

Guide Yacine TV had fluctuating weekly downloads, with notable peaks of 189K in mid-January and 147K in late March. Active users followed a similar pattern, peaking at around 518K in late March.
