In the fourth quarter of 2023, the US music and podcasts app landscape saw varying trends among the top players. Detailed insights from Sensor Tower indicate how these apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
Pandora: Music & Podcasts experienced a revenue trend with figures starting at roughly $4.6M in the last week of September and peaking at over $5M by the year's end. Downloads saw a notable jump from 140K to over 210K in the same period, while weekly active users showed a slight decline from 18M to 16.6M.
YouTube Music showed a revenue increase from approximately $2.1M to $2.4M. Its downloads trended upwards, starting at around 185K and culminating at over 250K. The app's weekly active users began at 32.4M and dipped slightly to 32M by the quarter's close.
For Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts, revenue started at about $1.7M and rose to nearly $2M. Downloads fluctuated, beginning at 153K and reaching over 255K. Weekly active users remained fairly stable, starting at 2.6M and ending the quarter at just over 2.5M.
SoundCloud: Discover New Music saw its revenue increase from $1M to $1.1M. The app's downloads showed a rise from 129K to nearly 150K, while weekly active users decreased from 18.6M to 15.6M.
Lastly, Spotify - Music and Podcasts witnessed its revenue trend upwards from $888K to $1.1M. Downloads had a significant increase from 472K to over 630K, and weekly active users saw a peak at 85.5M before ending the quarter at 80.2M.
