As the year wrapped up, the word puzzle game category saw varied performance among its top contenders in the United States. Sensor Tower's data offers a closer look at how these games fared in downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
Wordscapes by PeopleFun, Inc. experienced a notable uptick in weekly revenue reaching a peak of nearly $960K in the last week of December. Downloads surged to 384K in the same period, while weekly active users saw a high of 2.8M in the week of December 18th.
The New York Times Company's NYT Games: Word Games & Sudoku also witnessed a revenue peak in the last week of December with approximately $750K. Downloads reached over 210K, and weekly active users climbed to 1.8M towards the end of Q4.
For Joyteractive's Cryptogram: Word Brain Puzzle, despite having no revenue for certain weeks, there was a rise in downloads to nearly 293K in early October, gradually settling at over 152K downloads by the year's end. Weekly active users peaked at 441K in mid-October.
Word Search Explorer: Fun Game from PlaySimple Games Pte Ltd showed consistent revenue throughout the quarter with a peak of $23K in the last week of December. Downloads saw a high of 186K, and active users reached close to 892K, both in the final week of the year.
Lastly, Lion Studios Plus' Wordle! had a steady increase in revenue, ending at nearly $97K in the holiday week. The game's downloads peaked at over 181K in late November, while active users saw their highest at 394K in the third week of November.
