Q1 2024 Performance of Top Android Word Puzzle Games in the US

In the first quarter of 2024, the word puzzle game category on Android has seen varying levels of engagement and financial success in the United States. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at the performance of the top five applications within this genre.

Wordscapes by PeopleFun, released in mid-2017, maintained a steady revenue stream with a slight dip towards the end of February, before picking up again in March, reaching upwards of $250K. Downloads peaked at over 100K in late January, while weekly active users fluctuated around the 1.2M to 1.4M mark throughout the quarter.

PlaySimple Games' Word Search Explorer showed a steady increase in revenue, starting at around $8K and reaching over $11K by the end of March. Downloads for the game, which debuted in late 2021, saw a high of over 100K in the first week of January, gradually declining thereafter. Weekly active users hovered around the 500K to 580K range.

Oakever Games' Zen Word® - Relax Puzzle Game, the newest entrant with a release date in late March 2023, saw a consistent rise in revenue, from approximately $9K to over $15K by the quarter's close. Downloads started strong at 44K but saw a dip, stabilizing at around 30K towards the end. The game's weekly active users showed healthy growth, from around 108K to over 154K in the same period.

Fugo Games' Words of Wonders: Crossword experienced modest revenue figures, with a slight decline mid-quarter, but ended on a positive note at nearly $20K. Downloads were strongest at the start of January with close to 50K, decreasing to just under 30K by the end of March. Weekly active users ranged from approximately 140K to 175K.

Lastly, The New York Times Company's NYT Games: Word Games & Sudoku showed a revenue increase from around $59K to over $66K. Downloads saw a peak of about 41K in mid-March, while the active user base grew from around 455K to over 634K, the highest among the five apps reviewed.
