In Q1 2024, the top five news applications in the United States experienced varied performance trends. The data, sourced from Sensor Tower, provides insights into their weekly downloads, revenue, and active users.
Reddit saw a consistent increase in weekly revenue, peaking at around $74.5K in the final week of March. Weekly downloads showed fluctuations, reaching a high of approximately 476K in early February, while weekly active users grew steadily from 23.6M to 24.1M by the end of the quarter.
X reported significant weekly revenue throughout the quarter, peaking at about $1.04M in early March. Downloads spiked to around 701K in the first week of February, while active users maintained a high but slightly fluctuating range, ending the quarter at approximately 41.1M.
Nextdoor: Neighborhood Network had a steady download rate, with numbers ranging between 149K and 187K weekly. Active users increased from 4.86M to 5.01M over the quarter.
NewsBreak: Local News & Alerts experienced a slight decline in downloads towards the end of the quarter, starting at approximately 269K and dropping to around 231K. Active users showed an upward trend, peaking at about 6.1M in mid-March before dropping to 4.76M by the end of the month.
Citizen: Local Safety Alerts maintained a stable revenue pattern, peaking at around $166K in early March. Downloads varied, reaching as high as approximately 73K in mid-March, while active users fluctuated, ending at around 860K.
