In the first quarter of 2024, the peer-to-peer payment landscape showed varied trends across the top applications in the United States. Sensor Tower's data provides insight into the downloads and active users of these platforms.
Cash App downloads fluctuated, beginning at 522K in the first week of January and peaking at 615K in late February. Weekly active users started at 20.8M and saw a significant rise to 21.9M by the end of February, before slightly decreasing to 20.6M towards the end of March.
For Venmo, downloads remained stable with a starting point of 264K in January and hovering around the 250K mark throughout the quarter. The platform's active users experienced a dip in early January at 16.3M but rebounded to 18.3M by the end of February, ending the quarter with 16.9M active users.
Zelle also saw a steady download rate, kicking off the year with 238K downloads and reaching a high of 278K by the end of February. Active user numbers for Zelle were consistent, starting at 1.16M and ending the quarter with a slight decrease to 1.15M.
BOSS Money: Send Cash Fast had a lower volume of downloads compared to others, starting at 14.5K and peaking at 19.3K in early February. Its weekly active users showed a modest increase from 51.3K to 55.2K in mid-February, followed by a small decline to 53.4K by the end of March.
OPay-We are beyond Banking commenced the quarter with 7.1K downloads and saw an increase to 14K by the end of March. The app's weekly active users were relatively stable, beginning at 104.4K and rising to 111.9K in the final week of March.
