In the third quarter of 2024, the South African finance app market on Android saw significant activity, with the top five applications demonstrating varied performance in terms of downloads and active users. Data from Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at these trends.
Capitec Bank maintained a strong presence with a notable increase in weekly downloads. Starting the quarter with approximately 179K downloads, the app experienced fluctuations but ended on a high note with around 210K downloads in the last week of September. Active users also showed a positive trend, rising from about 3.3M at the beginning of July to over 3.6M by the end of the quarter.
VodaPay experienced a surge in downloads mid-quarter, peaking at over 126K in the week of August 19. Active user numbers grew steadily, reaching approximately 562K by the end of September, indicating increased user engagement.
TymeBank saw a varied pattern in downloads, with a significant rise to about 72K in the final week. The active user base expanded from around 905K to nearly 1.2M, reflecting a growing customer base over the quarter.
The SARS Mobile eFiling app experienced a downward trend in downloads, starting at approximately 149K and decreasing to about 20K by the end of the quarter. However, active users remained relatively stable, with a slight increase towards the end of September.
Finally, the FNB Banking App showed a moderate increase in downloads, culminating in around 56K in the last week. Active users saw a slight decline from about 1.4M to 1.3M, indicating some user churn.
