In the third quarter of 2024, the top music and podcast apps on iOS in the United States demonstrated varied performance trends in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. Here's a closer look at the data, courtesy of Sensor Tower.
Spotify - Music and Podcasts saw a gradual increase in weekly revenue, starting at approximately $474K in early July and peaking at $544K by the end of September. Weekly downloads fluctuated around the 300K mark, with a notable peak of 324.6K in mid-August. The app maintained a robust base of active users, with numbers increasing from 48.2M to 48.7M throughout the quarter.
YouTube Music experienced substantial weekly revenue, starting at $2.5M and reaching $2.9M by the end of September. Downloads remained relatively stable, averaging around 145K, with a peak of 155.4K in late September. Active users grew steadily, beginning the quarter at 15M and ending at 15.5M.
Shazam: Find Music & Concerts did not generate revenue during this period. However, the app saw weekly downloads hover around the 120K mark, with a high of 144.2K in late July. Active users fluctuated slightly, starting at 6.9M and ending at 6.5M.
Musi - Simple Music Streaming reported a decline in weekly revenue from $17.8K in early July to $2.9K by late September. Downloads showed a similar downward trend, with numbers dropping from 106.5K to 17.6K over the quarter. Active users remained relatively stable, hovering around 2.7M.
Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts had a dynamic revenue trend, with figures ranging from $1.6M to $2M. Downloads decreased from 101.8K to 87.8K, while active users saw a slight decline from 1.7M to 1.6M.
