In the third quarter of 2024, the navigation app landscape in Russia saw notable performances from the top five contenders on a unified platform. This analysis, based on data from Sensor Tower, provides insights into weekly downloads, revenue, and active user trends.
Yandex Maps & Navigator from Direct Cursus Computer Systems Trading demonstrated a steady increase in weekly revenue, peaking at approximately $1.9K in the final week of September. The app's weekly downloads showed a declining trend, starting at about 230K in early July and falling to around 151K by the end of September. Meanwhile, weekly active users fluctuated slightly but remained strong, ending the quarter at nearly 15M.
2GIS: Offline Map & Navigation maintained a consistent presence in the download charts, with numbers ranging from 172K to 224K over the quarter. Active users also saw a positive trend, increasing from approximately 5.1M in July to 5.5M by the end of September, indicating a robust user base despite the absence of revenue generation during this period.
Google Maps experienced a gradual decline in weekly downloads, starting at 54K in early July and dropping to about 39K by the end of September. Similarly, active user numbers decreased from 3.5M to 2.9M over the quarter, reflecting a downward trend in user engagement during this period.
Yandex Navi – navigation, maps saw a modest decrease in both downloads and active users. Downloads decreased from 130K to 106K, while active users fell from 3.5M to 3.1M throughout the quarter. Revenue also experienced a slight decline, starting at $8.9K and finishing the quarter at $7.8K.
MosMetro – metro, MCD, MCC showed an interesting trend in active users, with a significant increase from approximately 695K in early July to 900K by the end of September. Weekly downloads varied, peaking at 48K in early July and settling at around 36K in late September.
