The third quarter of 2024 showcased interesting trends in the sandbox games category on a unified platform in the United States. Data from Sensor Tower reveals how the top five apps in this category performed in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users.
Roblox from Roblox Corporation maintained a solid presence with weekly revenue peaking at around $15M in late July. However, revenue saw a decline towards the end of the quarter, stabilizing at approximately $12.2M. Weekly downloads started strong with over 600K in early July but gradually decreased to about 544K by the end of September. Active users showed a similar downward trend, beginning with over 37M and ending with approximately 31.2M.
Minecraft: Play with Friends by Mojang experienced a gradual decline in weekly revenue from about $1.2M to $818K over the quarter. Downloads mirrored this trend, starting at over 291K and dropping to around 87K. The active user base also decreased from about 9.5M to 6.6M by the end of September.
Melon: Sandbox from Payge Ltd saw stable weekly revenue, fluctuating between $34K and $41K. Downloads started at 141K and decreased to approximately 93K, while active users showed a slight increase, ending the quarter with about 1.55M.
Block Craft 3D: Building Games by Wildlife Studios generated modest weekly revenue, peaking at $7.5K in early July and ending the quarter at $5.3K. Downloads showed a declining trend from 84K to 49K, while active users decreased from 573K to 447K.
Rec Room: Play with Friends by Rec Room Inc reported weekly revenue starting at $30K, dropping to $22K by the end of the quarter. Downloads followed a similar trajectory, decreasing from 60K to 38K. The app's active users also declined from 171K to 136K.
