In the first quarter of 2025, the top five investing and financial management apps in South Africa demonstrated varied performance trends on the unified platform. Here’s a closer look at each app’s metrics based on data from Sensor Tower.
MetaTrader 5 — Forex, Stocks saw a steady increase in weekly downloads, starting from around 12.7K at the beginning of January and ending the quarter with nearly 20K downloads. The app's weekly active users also rose consistently, reaching approximately 494.7K by the end of March.
Luno: Buy Bitcoin & Crypto experienced fluctuations in weekly downloads, peaking at about 18.4K mid-January, and concluding the quarter with 13.3K. Active users fluctuated as well, starting the quarter at 691.5K and ending with 640.6K.
Pocket Broker had a notable increase in weekly downloads, especially in early March, where it reached 19.7K. The app's weekly active users showed a similar upward trend, peaking at 107.8K in mid-March.
BROKSTOCK Investment & Trading had a variable download pattern, with a notable dip in mid-February, but rebounded to 17.9K by the end of March. Active users also grew, starting at 58.3K and increasing to 61.9K by quarter's end.
Binance: Buy Bitcoin & Crypto showed stable weekly downloads with a slight peak of 12.1K in mid-March. The weekly active users, however, saw a decrease, ending the quarter at 95.5K from a starting point of 124.2K.
