In the second quarter of 2023, the iOS MMORPG landscape in the United States saw varying trends across the top five games in the category. Data from Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at how each application fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
Diablo Immortal, published by Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., saw fluctuating revenue, peaking at nearly $1 million in mid-June. Downloads for the game showed an upward trend in Q2, rising to around 47k in mid-June before dropping to approximately 24k by the end of the quarter. The game’s weekly active users experienced a slight decline from around 387k to approximately 353k during the same period.
Nexon's MapleStory M: Fantasy MMORPG observed a significant increase in revenue, reaching over $400k in the last week of June. Downloads remained relatively low, hovering around 1k per week, while the weekly active users saw a modest increase from 3.5k to just over 2.9k.
Summoners War: Chronicles, another South Korean title by Com2uS Corp., experienced a revenue boost, with the highest point at around $168k in late June. The game’s downloads declined sharply from around 7k in April to just 332 by the end of June. Weekly active users, however, remained stable, with a slight decrease from around 26.8k to 21.9k.
Wish Interactive Technology Limited's Fate of the Empress showed a revenue fluctuation with a peak at around $110k in mid-June. Downloads saw a peak at around 10k in early June, followed by a slight decrease to around 8.9k. The weekly active users for the game saw an increase from approximately 32.5k to 36.2k during Q2.
Lastly, Old School RuneScape by Jagex from the United Kingdom reported steady revenue, maintaining around $84k by the end of June. The game’s downloads remained consistent, averaging around 4k per week, while the weekly active users showed a slight decline from roughly 37.3k to 34.4k.
