In the fourth quarter of 2020, Europe's carpooling and ridesharing app landscape saw varied user engagement across several key players. Sensor Tower provides a detailed analysis of the top five Android applications in this category, focusing on downloads and weekly active users.
Yandex Go — taxi and delivery experienced a significant increase in downloads, starting at 189K in the final week of September and peaking at 241K by the end of December. Weekly active users also saw a steady rise, from 3.5M to 4.3M in the same period.
Uber - Request a ride, while not showing revenue, maintained a consistent download rate, beginning at 122K and closing the quarter at 140K. Its active user base fluctuated, with a notable dip to 4.1M in early November but recovering to 4.4M by year-end.
BlaBlaCar: Carpooling and Bus downloads dipped mid-quarter to 84K but rebounded to 109K by the final week of December. The app's weekly active users showed resilience, recovering from a low of 745K in early November to surpass 1M by the close of the quarter.
Bolt: Request a Ride saw a decrease in downloads, from 121K to 98K, before ending the quarter on an upswing at 122K. The app's active users were lowest at 759K in early November but improved to 871K by the end of December.
Lastly, Uber Russia — order taxis started the quarter with 84K downloads, dropping to 64K in late October, and then saw a substantial increase to 153K by December's end. Active users mirrored this trend, falling to 530K but recovering strongly to 812K in the same timeframe.
