As the digital payment space continues to grow, Sensor Tower provides a closer look at the performance of the top peer-to-peer (P2P) payment applications in the United States during the first quarter of 2021.
Cash App maintained strong download numbers throughout the quarter, with a peak of 840K downloads in the week of January 25th. Although there was a slight dip to 601K downloads by the week of March 22nd, the app's weekly active users (WAUs) saw an impressive high of 18.6M in late January and late February.
Venmo, another major player, also experienced its highest download week in early February with 444K new users. Its WAUs showed significant growth, starting the quarter with 14.9M and reaching a peak of 17.3M in the last week of March.
For Zelle, downloads remained consistent, hovering around the 230K mark each week, with a notable increase to 265K in mid-March. Zelle's WAUs fluctuated slightly but ended the quarter with a stable user base of just over 1M active users.
BOSS Money: Send Cash Fast saw modest download numbers compared to the others, with a peak of 15.6K in mid-March. The app's WAUs experienced a gradual increase, reaching 46K in the same period, indicating a solidifying user base.
Lastly, Access Corrections had its best week for downloads in late March with nearly 10K new installations. Its WAUs showed a consistent trend, with a slight increase to 55.4K by the end of the quarter.
