The sandbox gaming genre has maintained its popularity in Europe during the first quarter of 2021. With data provided by Sensor Tower, we're able to take a closer look at the performance of the top sandbox games across both iOS and Android platforms.
Published by Roblox Corporation, Roblox started the quarter with a revenue of over $4.8M in the last week of December 2020, before experiencing a downward trend to around $3.4M by the end of March 2021. The game's downloads also saw a decline from approximately 950K to 705K during the same period. However, weekly active users increased from 23M to over 28M, indicating a growing player base despite a drop in new downloads.
Block Craft 3D: Building Game by Wildlife Studios showed a revenue ranging from $13K to nearly $15K, with minor fluctuations throughout the quarter. The game witnessed a peak in downloads at nearly 488K in late February, followed by a slight decrease to 372K by the end of March. The weekly active users saw a peak of 3.3M in late February before stabilizing around 3M.
Mojang's Minecraft Trial experienced a decrease in revenue from $884K to $726K by the end of the quarter. Downloads showed a more stable trend, with a slight dip from 344K to 295K. The game's active users, on the other hand, saw an impressive rise from 5.4M to over 6.4M, showcasing the game's enduring appeal.
LokiCraft, by developer akseno2, had no reported revenue but its downloads trended downwards from 323K to 238K. Despite the decrease in new players, the game maintained a fairly stable base of active users, hovering around 3M throughout the quarter.
Lastly, Minicraft 2020 from Daigo Game 2020 Inc, also with no revenue data available, saw downloads decrease from 317K to 188K. Active users followed a similar trend, dropping from 1.2M to around 1.2M by the quarter's end.
