As the final quarter of 2023 came to a close, the music and podcasting app landscape on iOS saw interesting trends emerge among the top players in the United States. Sensor Tower's data offers a clear view of how these apps fared in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users.
Pandora: Music & Podcasts experienced a steady revenue stream throughout the quarter, ending on a high note with $3.15M in the last week of December, up from $2.76M at the quarter's start. Downloads fluctuated, peaking at approximately 124K in the final week of December. Weekly active users saw a general decline from 10.8M to just under 10M by the year's end.
YouTube Music also saw its revenue increase, culminating in $2.44M in the week of Christmas. The app's downloads experienced a significant rise in December, reaching over 221K. Active users showed an upward trend in November but dipped slightly to 14.5M by the end of December.
For Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts, revenue demonstrated growth across the quarter, with the final week bringing in $1.85M. The app's downloads saw a substantial increase, jumping to 180K in the last week of December. Weekly active users, however, remained relatively stable, hovering around 1.7M.
SoundCloud: Discover New Music showed a mixed revenue trend but finished strong with $1.05M in the final week. Downloads saw a gradual increase, ending at 94K in the last week of December. The app’s active users peaked in mid-November at 16.8M but fell to 14M by the quarter's end.
TIDAL Music: HiFi, Ad-free maintained a consistent revenue with an end-of-quarter spike at $733K. Downloads remained low compared to other apps but showed a slight uptick to 10K in the final week. Active users saw a slight end-of-quarter decrease, ending at 563K.
