The final quarter of 2023 has seen the fitness and weight loss category continue to be a hub of activity on mobile platforms in the United States. Sensor Tower's data offers us a snapshot of how the top applications in this space have fared during this period.
Planet Fitness Workouts observed a fluctuating trend in downloads, peaking at around 212K in the last week of December, while weekly active users (WAUs) saw a high of 3.5M in the weeks of early November and late December. Revenue figures for the app showed a similar wavering pattern, with a notable peak of approximately $2K in the last week of November.
Pedometer - Step Counter experienced its highest download numbers in early October at over 222K, followed by a general downward trend, concluding the quarter with around 53K downloads. The app's WAUs reached a maximum of nearly 400K in late October, later stabilizing at about 332K by the end of December.
The performance of Yuka - Food & Cosmetic Scanner remained relatively steady in terms of downloads, with a significant jump to 133K in the final week of December. WAUs saw a slight decline from a peak of 523K in late September to approximately 455K by the year's end. Revenue exhibited minor fluctuations, with the highest at nearly $55K in the last week of November.
MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter showed consistent revenue above $1.5M throughout the quarter, with an impressive spike to over $2M in the last week of December. Downloads for the app were relatively stable, with a peak at around 119K in early October. WAUs for MyFitnessPal indicated a slight downward trend, starting at over 3.2M and dipping to just under 2.6M by the quarter's close.
Lastly, BetterMe: Health Coaching saw its revenue grow from approximately $326K in early October to a peak of around $456K in the final week of December. Downloads for BetterMe had a notable increase, jumping from 77K to 206K in the same period. The app's WAUs varied across the quarter, starting at about 390K and rocketing to over 678K by the end of December.
