As the year 2023 drew to a close, the MMORPG genre continued to engage players across the United States. Sensor Tower's data provides us with a comprehensive view of how the top MMORPG applications fared on a unified platform during the fourth quarter.
Diablo Immortal from Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. saw its revenue fluctuate, peaking at nearly $1M in the week of December 18th, after a low of around $427K in early November. Downloads for the game saw an upward trend, rising from around 12K to over 17K by the quarter's end, while weekly active users showed a gradual decrease from approximately 346K to 301K.
Jagex's Old School RuneScape experienced relatively stable revenue throughout the quarter, ending on a high note with around $161K in the last week of December. The game's downloads peaked at over 10K in late November, and weekly active users reached a high of nearly 65K in the same period before stabilizing around 58K.
For MapleStory M: Fantasy MMORPG, published by NEXON Company, revenue saw a decline from around $336K to $111K, despite a brief increase in mid-December. Downloads remained low with a slight increase to around 2.7K by the quarter's end, while weekly active users saw a small rise from 4.9K to 5.5K.
The Legend of Neverland by Ark Games displayed a mixed revenue trend, culminating in a strong $196K in the final week. The app's downloads saw highs and lows, concluding with a notable increase to approximately 12.6K. Weekly active users peaked at over 97K in late November, ending the quarter at around 91K.
Lastly, Jagex's RuneScape showed an impressive revenue spike in mid-October at over $267K, followed by a more leveled performance, closing the quarter at around $187K. Downloads followed a steady trend with a slight uptick to about 4.6K, while weekly active users exhibited growth, ending at 14K.
