Q2 2024 Analysis: Top Navigation & Maps Apps in the Unified Platform

In the second quarter of 2024, the Navigation and Maps category saw varied user engagement across its top applications on the unified platform. Sensor Tower's latest data provides insights into these trends.

Google Maps Go experienced a steady rise in both downloads and weekly active users (WAUs). Downloads increased from 7.6K in the first week of April to 11.4K by the end of June. WAUs also grew significantly from 2.17M to 2.37M in the same period.

In contrast, Google Earth saw a more modest trend in downloads, starting at 4.6K and reaching 4.6K again at the quarter's end after a mid-quarter dip. The WAUs remained fairly stable, with a slight uptick from 40.7K to 40.4K.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic showed a fluctuating download pattern, starting at 4.3K and peaking at 5.8K in mid-June before settling at 4.6K. The WAUs presented growth from 190K to 208K, suggesting an increase in consistent users over the quarter.

GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation displayed a positive revenue trend, starting at $75 and reaching $100 by June's end. Downloads surged from 737 to 1.7K, while WAUs rose from 3.1K to 5.1K, indicating an overall upward trajectory.

Lastly, GPS Maps, Navigation & Traffic showed a varied revenue pattern, peaking at $52 in mid-April and then dropping to zero by the month's end. Downloads had a mid-quarter peak at 1.5K, followed by a consistent climb back to 1.5K. WAUs saw growth from 1.3K to 2.2K in early June before stabilizing around 2K.
