In the second quarter of 2025, the carpooling and ridesharing market in the United States saw varied performance across top apps. Here’s a closer look at how the leading platforms fared, based on data from Sensor Tower.
Uber - Request a ride experienced a steady pattern in weekly downloads, starting at approximately 346K and peaking at about 389K by the end of June. Weekly active users showed some fluctuation, beginning at around 20.2M, with a slight decline to about 18.5M by the end of the quarter.
Lyft saw an upward trend in downloads, increasing from 251K to approximately 274K. Active users demonstrated a peak mid-quarter at around 12.1M, with a slight drop to approximately 10.8M by the quarter's end.
Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver maintained a consistent download rate, averaging around 145K weekly downloads. Active user numbers fluctuated slightly, starting at approximately 3.1M and closing at around 3.2M.
Waymo showed a varied download pattern, with numbers ranging from 77K to a peak of 87K mid-quarter. Active users rose significantly from 354K to a high of 451K before settling at approximately 381K.
Finally, Lyft Driver had consistent weekly downloads, averaging around 46K. However, active users experienced a gradual decline, starting at approximately 1.3M and ending the quarter at around 945K.
