In the final quarter of 2025, the social app landscape in South Africa presented intriguing trends. According to Sensor Tower, the top five social apps on the unified platform displayed varied performances in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users.

TikTok - Videos, Shop & LIVE saw a robust increase in weekly revenue, starting at around $195K and culminating at $254K by the end of December. Weekly downloads initially surged to 473K but gradually tapered to approximately 75K. Meanwhile, active users fluctuated but remained strong, closing the quarter near 24M.

Facebook experienced a more modest revenue trajectory, peaking at about $46K in early December before settling to $27K. Downloads followed a declining pattern from 248K to about 81K, while active users consistently hovered around 12.4M.

Poppo Live- Live Stream maintained a steady revenue stream, averaging around $14K weekly. Downloads notably decreased from 8.8K to 5.4K over the quarter, yet active users remained relatively stable, ending at 25K.

Instagram reported a slight dip in revenue, stabilizing around $8.5K. Downloads showed a downward trend from 110K to 63K, while active users slightly increased, closing at nearly 8M.

Finally, Grindr - Gay Dating & Chat saw its revenue rise from $13K to $16K by the end of the quarter. Downloads grew modestly from 2.3K to 3K, and active users edged up to 19K.
