Coin Master Hits the Jackpot as it Surpasses $2 Billion in Lifetime Player Spending

Coin Master generated $1.2 billion in 2020, up 122.4 percent year-over-year, Sensor Tower data shows.

Social Casino mobile game Coin Master from Moon Active has surpassed $2 billion in lifetime player spending after a stellar year of growth propelled by the global COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence.

The title broke $1.2 billion in 2020 alone, up 122.4 percent from 2019, when it accumulated $539.6 million. Its best month ever came in December 2020, when it racked up $118 million, an increase of 92.7 percent year-over-year. Coin Master is one of the key drivers of the Casino category on mobile, which according to the Sensor Tower Game Taxonomy was the No. 2 fastest growing genre for player spending among the top 100 titles in the U.S. last year, with revenue rising close to 49 percent Y/Y.

Casino was also the No. 1 category for downloads growth, increasing by 27.5 percent Y/Y. Of the top 100 revenue-generating Casino games in the U.S. in 2020, Coin Master accounted for 13.9 percent of all revenue, generating $626.6 million in the country. The No. 2 ranked title was Slotomania from Playtika, which accumulated $302.8 million, or 6.7 percent of all revenue. Within the Social Casino subgenre, Coin Master generated 93.3 percent of category revenue.

Coin Master has found most of its success in the United States, where it has picked up $1 billion in player spending, or 50 percent of total revenue. Germany ranks No. 2 with approximately $214 million, or 10.7 percent of all player spending, while the United Kingdom ranks No. 3 with close to $160 million, or 8 percent.

When it comes to downloads, Coin Master has generated 194.8 million installs to date. The U.S. ranks No. 1 with 39.5 million downloads, or 20.3 percent. India ranks No. 2 with 30.7 million downloads, or 15.8 percent, while Brazil rounds out the top three with 20.2 million, or 10.4 percent. Average revenue per download for the game currently averages at approximately $10.31.

Cashing In

Coin Master was the No. 4 revenue-generating mobile game worldwide in 2020 across the App Store and Google Play, behind other hits such as PUBG Mobile and Honor of Kings from Tencent, and Pokémon GO from Niantic. Overall, it was one of a record six titles that generated more than $1 billion in player spending last year. The title has not only been able to ride the wave of growth seen by the mobile games market in 2020, but it has continued it through to the end of the year, achieving a record month in December. Part of a booming Casino games market, Coin Master shows no sign of slowing down.
