Empires & Puzzles Storms Past $500 Million in Lifetime Revenue

Empires & Puzzles is Zynga's strongest performing acquisition to date based on player spending, as Sensor Tower data shows.

Match-3 RPG Empires & Puzzles by Finland studio Small Giant Games has surpassed $500 million in lifetime gross revenue, according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence estimates.

To date, the hit game from the Zynga-owned developer has hit approximately $507 million from more than 41 million downloads. Average revenue per download for the game currently averages at just over $12.

U.S. mobile publisher Zynga bought a majority stake in Small Giant Games in December 2018 and Empires & Puzzles has quickly become one of the biggest games in its portfolio.

Other key franchises the publisher has acquired over the years along with their developers include Merge Dragons by Gram Games, which has generated an estimated $287 million in revenue, and CSR Racing 2 by NaturalMotion, which has grossed $311 million from player spend to date.

The majority of Empires & Puzzles revenue has come from Android, where it has generated $340 million in gross revenue, or 67 percent of its total. The App Store version of the title has made $167 million, or 33 percent of all player spending.

The United States leads the way for sales, with users spending nearly $205 million in the game, or 40 percent. Germany was the second highest-grossing country at just under $61 million, or 12 percent, while Russia accounted for $58 million, or 11 percent.

As with revenue, Google Play also accounted for the majority of downloads, racking up over 34 million, or 83 percent. The App Store picked up 7.1 million installs, or 17 percent.

Most of the downloads for Empires & Puzzles have emanated from Russia, where it has generated 6.7 million downloads, or 16 percent. The U.S. had the second most unique installs at 6.1 million, or 15 percent, while Indonesia rounded out the top three with 2.2 million downloads, or 5 percent.
