Streaming giant Netflix set a new record for monthly consumer spending in its mobile app during November, grossing an estimated $86.6 million worldwide on the App Store and Google Play according to Sensor Tower Store Intelligence data. This figure was 77 percent higher than the $49 million we estimate the app grossed in November 2017 and 2.3 percent greater than the $84.7 million users users spent in July of this year, its previous best month for revenue. All told, the app has now grossed more than $1.58 billion globally since it began monetizing in September 2015.
The United States still contributes the majority of Netflix's in-app subscription revenue at 57 percent of the total last month, or $49.4 million. This figure itself was greater than the app's total gross revenue for November 2017 across all regions. When the app first began offering subscriptions in fall 2015, the U.S. accounted for 71 percent of its revenue.
Revenue in the U.S. grew 76 percent year-over-year last month, which, while significant, was surpassed in terms of countries contributing more than $1 million in gross revenue by Germany at 90 percent, Brazil at 94 percent, South Korea at 107 percent, and Japan at 175 percent.
