In this fourth excerpt in a series from our newly released State of Sports Apps report, we rank the top European sports apps by downloads and discuss download trends based on data from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
The 2018 World Cup helped Sports app downloads reach a new high in Q2 2018 in Europe at nearly 62 million. Downloads decreased 17 percent in Q2 2019 to 52 million. The share of European app downloads from the App Store hovered around 38 to 44 percent each quarter since 2016. The App Store had its lowest share of this period in Q2 2019 at 38.2 percent.
FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) apps were very popular in Europe. PacyBits had the top app by downloads in Europe during 2017, 2018, and the first half of 2019. It combined its draft and pack opener apps into FUT 19 this year.
FUT 19 was the top Sports app by installs in the first half of 2019, followed by DAZN, which rose by two ranks from the previous year, FlashScore, which was new to the rankings chart, Onefootball, and Mackolik Live Scores. The latter two apps each climbed one position from 2018.
