The second in our series of excerpts from our Q2 2019 Data Digest, the top mobile games worldwide by downloads for the quarter. The title with the most new installs during Q2 was Stack Ball from Azur Interactive, with close to 101 million first-time downloads. The full ranking of the top 10 most downloaded publishers is below. App download estimates are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.
The second best performing mobile game worldwide in Q2 2019 by downloads was Run Race 3D from Good Job Games with close to 96 million installs. The next most downloaded was Garena Free Fire from Garena, followed by Subway Surfers from Kiloo and Color Bump 3D from Good Job Games.
The emergence of hyper-casual games created a lot of turnover among the top games last quarter. Twelve games made the top 20 for the first time in Q2, including Stack Ball at No. 1. PUBG Mobile from Tencent was rebranded as Game for Peace in China. The download total for PUBG Mobile on the above chart includes both Game for Peace in China and PUBG Mobile elsewhere.
Aquapark.io from Voodoo was the most downloaded mobile game on the App Store worldwide for Q2 2019 with more than 24 million installs, followed by Run Race 3D, Mr Bullet from Lion Studios, Stack Ball, and Traffic Run from Geisha Tokyo.
PUBG Mobile, the No. 2 game in Q1 2019, fell to No. 8 in Q2 2019. Its downloads decreased 42 percent quarter-over-quarter. Meanwhile, battle royale rival Fortnite from Epic Games dropped out of the top 20. Good Job Games followed up on its hit hyper-casual game Color Bump 3D with three more games among the top 20, including No. 2 Run Race 3D and No. 10 Fun Race 3D.
Stack Ball was the most downloaded game on Google Play worldwide for Q2 2019 with more than 83 million installs, followed by Run Race 3D, Garena Free Fire, Subway Surfers, and Color Bump 3D.
Stack Ball from Azur Games was the first game to reach 80 million installs in a quarter since Voodoo’s Helix Jump back in Q3 2018. Run Race 3D and Garena Free Fire each surpassed 70 million. Garena Free Fire downloads increased 5 percent quarter-over-quarter to 71 million in Q2 2019. India was its largest market in the quarter driven by 61 percent Q/Q growth.
