Moon Active's Coin Master has reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing $6 billion in gross revenue according to Sensor Tower's Store Intelligence estimates. Since its release, this Coin Looter game has captivated millions of players and brought in billions in revenue.

If you’re not familiar with it, Coin Master is a popular mobile game in which players spin a slot machine to earn coins, build and upgrade their village, and raid other players' villages to steal resources and progress in the game.

Coin Master has a fascinating history. Although Coin Master was technically first released in 2012, it didn’t receive any support until February of 2016, when we see some metadata changes and initial user acquisition. Coin Master was steadily scaled from $0 in global monthly consumer spend in 2015 to raking in over $10 million in December 2018, but that was just the start.

In March 2019, Coin Master grossed $35 million and nearly doubled that to $63 million in October that same year. But even that wasn’t Coin Master’s final form. In March 2020, the US government declared a state of emergency due to the Covid pandemic, forcing Americans indoors to look for indoor entertainment. Other markets saw similar measures. In February 2020, Coin Master had just started celebrity partnerships with the Kardashians and Jennifer Lopez, which was leveraged heavily in ad creative. Largely due to these factors, Coin Master pulled in a staggering 15 million downloads in May 2020 and brought in $113 million in consumer spend, a level of revenue that put Coin Master in the stratosphere of mobile gaming and a level that Coin Master maintains to this day.

Since 2020, Coin Master has been generating nearly $1.2 billion in annual revenue, bringing its total to over $6 billion as of August 2024.

A significant part of this success was the fact that copycats seemed unable to replicate Coin Master’s scale. More modest successes were seen, but Coin Master was the definitive Coin Looter until the dawn of fellow Coin Looter MONOPOLY GO!. While the mobile industry is very familiar with the newborn titan that is MONOPOLY GO! at this point, it must be said that Coin Master has not suffered nearly as much as might be expected. While Coin Master has yet to break the records it set during the onset of the Covid pandemic, it still brought in $98 million in global consumer spend in July 2024, making it the 10th highest grossing game of the month worldwide. Not bad for a 2012 release.

The United States is the largest contributor to Coin Master’s revenue, accounting for 39 percent of the total, which translates to approximately $2.4 billion. Germany follows as the second-largest market, contributing 11 percent of the revenue, or $659 million.Other large European markets like the UK and France follow, but #5 holds something of a surprise: Taiwan, which has collectively spent more than $150 million in Coin Master over the lifetime of the game.

In H1 2024, Coin Master ranked as the 6th top game globally by gross revenue, and it topped the charts in two major revenue markets, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Coin Master has also achieved impressive download numbers, particularly in the United States, which accounts for 18 percent of the estimated 356 million downloads, equating to over 64 million installs. India follows closely, contributing nearly 12 percent of the downloads, or over 41 million installs across the App Store and Google Play. These numbers reflect the game’s widespread appeal and its ability to attract players from diverse regions.

Surpassing $6 billion in gross revenue is a testament to the enduring success of Coin Master. With its captivating 2D cartoon art style, engaging coin looting mechanics, and strong market presence, the game continues to entertain and engage players worldwide. As Moon Active continues to innovate and expand the Coin Master universe, the game is well-positioned to maintain its momentum and attract even more fans in the future.
