The top grossing mobile game worldwide for February 2021 was PUBG Mobile from Tencent’s TiMi Studios with $250 million in player spending, which represented 16.2 percent growth from February 2020. Approximately 66.5 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China and its localized version of the title, Game For Peace, followed by 7.4 percent from the United States and 3 percent from Saudi Arabia. Honor of Kings from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for February 2021 with $218.5 million in gross revenue, which represented 57.2 percent year-over-year growth from February 2020. About 95.6 percent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by 1.6 percent from Thailand. The next top grossing app was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Pokémon GO from Niantic and Roblox from Roblox Corporation.
Pokémon GO had one of its best months ever for player spending in February, accumulating $124.2 million, an increase of approximately 95 percent Y/Y. This was in part thanks to the ticketed Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto event, in which players attempted to catch all of the original 150 Pokémon. The event took place on February 20, with the title generating $10.6 million in a single day–its best performance since July 29, 2016, when it grossed $13.3 million.
Ahead of going public via a direct listing, Roblox had another lucrative month on mobile, racking up $101.6 million, up 84.8 percent from February 2020. By the end of last month, Roblox had generated $2.5 billion in lifetime player spending across the App Store and Google Play as it continues to ride a wave in popularity following a banner year in 2020 when it grossed close to $1.2 billion on mobile.
