Top Grossing Mobile Games Worldwide for July 2021

The top grossing mobile game worldwide for July 2021 was PUBG Mobile from Tencent with more than $299 million in player spending, which represented 26.7 percent growth from July 2020. Approximately 68.4 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China and the localized version of the title, Game For Peace, followed by 6.7 percent from the United States and 6 percent from Turkey. The full ranking of the top grossing mobile games for July 2021 is above. Game revenue estimates are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.

Honor of Kings from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for July 2021 with $231.2 million in gross revenue, which represented approximately 2 percent year-over-year growth from July 2020. About 94.7 percent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by 2 percent from Taiwan. The next top grossing app was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Pokémon GO from Niantic and Roblox from Roblox Corporation.

The global mobile games market generated $7.6 billion from player spending across the App Store and Google Play in July 2021, marking an increase of 7.2 percent year-over-year. July 2020 was the second best month for mobile games revenue last year–impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, with only December seeing higher player spending levels, showing the market continues to sustain 2020’s outsized growth.

The No. 1 market for global revenue in July 2021 was the United States, which accumulated approximately $2.2 billion, or approximately 29 percent of total player spending worldwide. Japan ranked No. 2 for revenue at 19.8 percent, followed by China, where Google Play is not available, at 17.4 percent.

Pokémon GO had its fifth best month ever in July 2021, generating $150.4 million in player spending globally. Part of that success emanates from the successful Pokémon GO Fest, an annual, ticketed event that saw revenue in the game surge to approximately $21 million on July 17 and 18. It’s yet another example of how large, in-game events have the potential to create spikes in player spending.
