The top grossing mobile game worldwide for March 2021 was Honor of Kings from Tencent with $257.5 million in player spending, which represented 63 percent growth from March 2020. About 96.3 percent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by 1.6 percent from Thailand and 1.2 percent from Taiwan. PUBG Mobile from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for March 2021 with $240.5 million in gross revenue. About 59.7 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China and its localized version of the title, Game for Peace, followed by 9.8 percent from the United States. The next top grossing app was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Uma Musume Pretty Derby from Cygames and Coin Master from Moon Active.
Launched in Japan at the end of February 2021, Uma Musume Pretty Derby has quickly become one of the biggest mobile games in the world by player spending. The title generated $136.6 million in March alone, showing just how lucrative Japan’s mobile market remains. In just one month, Uma Musume Pretty Derby has generated close to the lifetime revenue of another Cygames title, Dragalia Lost, developed in partnership with Nintendo, which has accumulated $154.8 million in player spending as of March 31, 2021.
Lords Mobile from IGG was the No. 4 revenue generating game on Google Play in March, generating more than $59 million, a rise of approximately 250 percent year-over-year. The title has experienced a large surge in revenue since January, thanks to the integration of a new battle pass system called "Kingdom Labors". Players are able to purchase a monthly Gold Pass or use the default Silver Pass, and in return for completing weekly tasks, they can obtain prizes. It follows in the footsteps of the likes of PUBG Mobile, Fortnite from Epic Games and Clash of Clans from Supercell in implementing a successful battle pass.
