The top grossing mobile game worldwide for May 2021 was Honor of Kings from Tencent with $264.5 million in player spending, which represented 13 percent growth from May 2020. Approximately 95 percent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by about 2 percent from Taiwan and 1.7 percent from Thailand. PUBG Mobile from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for May 2021 with close to $258 million in gross revenue, which represented 5.2 percent year-over-year growth from May 2020. About 56.6 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China and its localized version of the title, Game for Peace, followed by approximately 11 percent from the United States. The next top grossing game was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Roblox from Roblox Corporation and Lineage M from NCSoft.
Mobile shooter Garena Free Fire from Garena had its best month ever for player spending in May, generating approximately $107 million, a rise of 29.4 percent from April and up 19.4 percent from its previous best ever month in March. It comes after a successful Q1, when the title usurped PUBG Mobile as the top revenue generating Shooter in the U.S.
