The top grossing mobile game worldwide for November 2020 was Honor of Kings from Tencent with $230.5 million in user spending, which represented 62.5 percent growth from November 2019. Approximately 96.4 percent of Honor of Kings’ revenue was from China, followed by 1.4 percent from Taiwan and 1 percent from Thailand. PUBG Mobile from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for November 2020 with more than $173.8 million in gross revenue, which represented 3.8 percent year-over-year growth from November 2019. About 54.2 percent of PUBG Mobile’s revenue was from China and its localized version of the title, Game For Peace, followed by 11.5 percent from the United States. The next top grossing mobile game was Genshin Impact from miHoYo, followed by Coin Master from Moon Active and Pokémon GO from Niantic.
Following its spectacular launch, blockbuster RPG Genshin Impact fell to the No. 3 grossing mobile game in November, generating $143 million. The majority of the title’s revenue for the month came from Japan, where players spent $38 million, or 26.6 percent of revenue. This was ahead of China, which ranked No. 2 for player spending with $36.3 million, or 25.4 percent. Outside of China, Google Play accumulated the lion’s share of Genshin Impact’s revenue last month, accounting for close to $65 million, or 60.7 percent of total player spending.
When it comes to the App Store revenue rankings for November, games from Chinese publishers accounted for eight of the top 10 grossing titles by worldwide revenue. The two remaining games were published by U.S. companies: Roblox from Roblox Corporation and Pokémon GO. It’s another reminder of China’s ever-growing influence on the global mobile games market.
