Top Grossing Mobile Games Worldwide for October 2020

The top grossing mobile game worldwide for October 2020 was Genshin Impact from miHoYo with close to $239 million in player spending. Approximately 31 percent of Genshin Impact’s revenue was from China, followed by 24.5 percent from Japan and 19 percent from the United States. The full ranking of the top grossing mobile games for October 2020 is above. Game revenue estimates are from Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform.

Honor of Kings from Tencent was the second highest earning mobile game worldwide for October 2020 with $225 million in gross revenue, which represented 65.5 percent year-over-year growth from October 2019. About 96 percent of Honor of Kings' revenue was from China, followed by 1.4 percent from Taiwan. The next top grossing game was PUBG Mobile from Tencent, followed by Pokémon GO from Niantic and Coin Master from Moon Active.

Genshin Impact’s rise to the top was of particular note in October. The title was officially released on September 28, and the brand-new IP was an instant global success story, generating $60 million in its first week and close to $250 million in its first month. Such were its worldwide fortunes, it was able to outmuscle top-grossing stalwarts like Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile. It’s yet another example of how Chinese publishers aren’t just making big returns at home, but are increasingly finding success overseas, too.

Moonlight Blade was also a significant launch from another Chinese publisher, Tencent. The title was released on October 15, but was still able to enter the worldwide revenue chart for the month at No. 9 after accumulating close to $86 million in just two weeks. Unlike Genshin Impact, however, the title was only available in China, showing just how lucrative the country’s mobile games market is.
