The final quarter of 2020 brought varying fortunes for the leading tabletop board game applications on the iOS platform in the United States. Data from Sensor Tower offers us a glimpse into user engagement and the financial performance of these apps during this period.
Chess - Play & Learn from Chess.com showcased a robust quarter with revenue rising significantly from $31K to $160K. Downloads also saw a massive spike, starting at 21K and reaching nearly 120K by the year's end. The app's weekly active users followed a similar upward trajectory, jumping from 409K to 884K.
On the other hand, Bear Dice by Dianjinshi Information Technology Co., Ltd, which did not generate revenue, experienced an impressive increase in downloads from 14K to over 86K before dipping to 22K. The weekly active users peaked at 92K, only to decline to 34K by the close of Q4.
Chess ∙ by Optime Software LLC, despite not earning revenue, saw a surge in downloads in mid-November with 44K, which then normalized to 27K by the end of December. Weekly active users reflected this pattern, with numbers swelling to 98K before settling at 80K.
Yso Corp's Whooo? also displayed a healthy quarter. The game's revenue remained modest, fluctuating around the low hundreds, but downloads and weekly active users increased notably, ending the year at 38K and 57K, respectively.
Lastly, Dominos Party - Best Game from Huuuge Global Ltd. witnessed a steady revenue stream, from $752 to $1.7K, alongside a diverse download pattern that peaked at 33K in early October. Weekly active users saw a high of 34K, which slightly decreased to 26K by the end of Q4.
