In the first quarter of 2021, Europe saw significant activity in the food and diet tracking app category on the Android platform. Data from Sensor Tower presents the performance of the top five applications in terms of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users.
YAZIO Food & Calorie Counter, hailing from Germany, demonstrated a strong start in the quarter with revenues peaking at around $340K in the first week of January before experiencing a gradual decline to approximately $128K by the end of March. Downloads saw a sharp drop from roughly 303K to 80K, while weekly active users fluctuated, reaching a high of over 2M in early January and settling at around 2M by quarter's end.
Australian-based Calorie Counter by FatSecret showed more modest revenue figures, with an upward trend from $6K to around $8K in the first weeks, dipping to approximately $7K towards March. Downloads peaked at over 121K in mid-January, followed by a decrease to about 91K. The app's weekly active users grew consistently, starting at around 608K and reaching 942K by the quarter's conclusion.
From China, Fasting - Intermittent Fasting saw revenues that varied, peaking at $8.5K in early January and then oscillating to close at around $6.3K. Download numbers decreased from over 107K to approximately 72K. Weekly active users showed a slight downward trend, from over 635K to about 641K.
The US-developed MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter experienced revenue growth in early February, reaching over $138K, before stabilizing around $109K. Downloads showed a steady decline from 72K to 55K, with weekly active users peaking at 919K in mid-March, then dropping to roughly 823K.
Lastly, Japan's Yuka - Food & Cosmetic Scanner saw revenues that increased to a high of $7.3K in early February, followed by a general downward trend to about $4.8K. This app, however, had a significant surge in downloads in late March, reaching over 137K from an initial 39K, and weekly active users increased substantially from 687K to over 1M.
