As tax season ramps up, individuals across the United States turn to mobile applications for assistance with tax preparation and planning. Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the performance of the top tax-related apps on the Android platform for Q1 2021.
IRS2Go, the official app of the Internal Revenue Service, saw a significant spike in downloads, peaking at nearly 290K in the week of February 22nd. Weekly active users followed a similar trend, with a high of 1.9M in the same week, though it gradually declined to 1.65M by the end of March.
Intuit Inc's TurboTax: File Your Tax Return not only experienced robust download numbers, reaching a peak of 178K in early February but also generated significant revenue, with a notable increase to $935K during the week of February 1st. The app maintained a strong base of weekly active users, starting at 374K and growing to a peak of 621K in February.
H&R Block's MyBlock app displayed a steady growth in downloads, with a notable jump to 58K in early March. Its weekly active users saw a consistent increase throughout the quarter, peaking at 98K in mid-March.
Another H&R Block app, H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes, showed more modest numbers in comparison, with downloads peaking at 18K in early February and weekly active users reaching just over 11K during the same period.
Lastly, TaxCaster by TurboTax had its highest downloads at 6.3K towards the end of January. The app's weekly active users showed a slight peak of 6.9K in the same month before gradually decreasing to 5.1K by the end of March.
