The first quarter of 2021 has been an active period for fitness and weight loss apps on the iOS platform in the United States. Sensor Tower's data provides insights into the performance of the top applications in this category.
Planet Fitness Workouts saw a significant increase in weekly active users, peaking at around 1.2M by the end of March, up from 922K at the end of December. Downloads had a high in the second week of January at over 160K, with a gentle decline to 126K by the end of March. Revenue trends showed a steady increase, culminating at approximately $11K in the last week of March.
MyFitnessPal: Calorie Counter maintained a strong user base, with weekly active users starting at about 3.4M and reaching nearly 4M in early March before settling back to around 3.5M. Downloads showed a spike in early January with around 120K, followed by a gradual decrease to 95K. Revenue for MyFitnessPal fluctuated, hitting a high of over $1M in early February.
Fitbit: Health & Fitness, published by Google LLC, also experienced fluctuations in its performance metrics. Active users remained fairly stable, with a slight increase from 2.3M to 2.3M over the quarter. Downloads peaked in late December at over 120K and then followed a downward trend to around 52K. Revenue saw a significant jump in late March, reaching upwards of $577K.
FitOn Workouts & Fitness Plans showed a more variable pattern in its user activity. Weekly active users saw a modest increase from 400K at the end of December to around 382K by the end of March. Downloads reached their highest at nearly 70K in mid-January before dropping to 35K by the end of March. Revenue had a peak of around $94K in late January, with some ups and downs throughout the quarter.
Fastic: Fasting & Food Tracker witnessed growth in its active user base, from 150K at the end of December to over 215K by the end of March. Downloads surged to 66K in early January but saw a decrease to 43K towards the end of March. Revenue trends showed an overall increase, with a peak of around $140K in the first week of March.
