The first quarter of 2021 has been an interesting period for carpooling and ridesharing apps in Australia. With data sourced from Sensor Tower, let's delve into the performance of the top applications in this category.
Starting with Uber - Request a ride, we observed that downloads began at around 35K in the last week of December 2020 and saw a dip to approximately 25K in the first week of January 2021. The trend fluctuated slightly but maintained a range between 24K and 32K downloads weekly throughout the quarter. Weekly active users started strong at roughly 787K, dipped to 636K in early January, and peaked at 807K in mid-March.
DiDi Rider: Affordable rides showed a similar pattern in downloads, starting at approximately 26K and experiencing a dip to around 15K in January. The numbers climbed back up, reaching close to 20K towards the end of February. The app's weekly active users hovered around 200K to 245K, indicating a steady user base.
For Ola Cabs, downloads started at about 14K and saw a decrease in early January to around 9K, with a gradual increase to just over 10K by the end of March. The weekly active users were quite robust, beginning at over 300K and peaking at 332K in late February.
The Uber - Driver: Drive & Deliver app for drivers experienced a range of 4K to 5K downloads weekly, with active users starting at 118K and reaching a high of 132K in mid-March.
Lastly, the Ola Driver app had a modest start with around 3K downloads in the last week of December, dipping to just below 1.5K in the first week of January, and then gradually increasing to nearly 2K by March. The weekly active users showed a similar trend, starting at 7.3K, decreasing to 4.3K in mid-January, and rising back to around 6.2K by the end of the quarter.
