In the first quarter of 2021, Australia's mobile gaming enthusiasts have been actively engaged in city building games, with notable trends observed among the top five games in this category. Data provided by Sensor Tower offers insight into their performance on the unified platform, which includes both iOS and Android devices.
Starting with City Takeover, the game saw an impressive surge in downloads, peaking at around 39K in early March before stabilizing to 15K by the end of the quarter. Weekly active users mirrored this trend, with a high of approximately 59K active users in the first week of March, eventually settling around 33K towards the end of March.
SimCity BuildIt by Electronic Arts demonstrated consistent revenue generation throughout the quarter, with a notable spike to about $53K in early March. The game maintained a steady base of weekly active users, starting at roughly 30K at the beginning of the quarter and slightly declining to 27K by the end of March. Downloads showed a stable pattern, averaging around 2K to 3K weekly.
The iconic The Simpsons™: Tapped Out also maintained a loyal user base, with revenue reaching around $20K in the first week of January and then showing a gradual decrease to approximately $11K by the end of March. Active users and downloads followed a relatively stable trend, with a slight uptick in active users to about 8.4K in the last week of March.
Nvizzio Creations' MONOPOLY Tycoon experienced a modest presence in terms of revenue, with its highest at $103 in mid-February. However, the focus for this title was on its downloads and weekly active users, which peaked at around 2.3K and 1.9K respectively in mid-February.
Lastly, Megapolis: City Building Sim from Social Quantum showed an increase in revenue from $2.4K in early February to a peak of $5.1K in early March, before a decrease to around $2.2K by the end of the quarter. Active users saw a slight decline from 2.4K to around 2.1K, while downloads fluctuated with a high of approximately 1K in early February.
