In the first quarter of 2021, Brazil's navigation app market showed varied trends across the top 5 applications on the unified platform. Sensor Tower provides a closer look at the performance of these apps, focusing on download numbers and weekly active users.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic began the quarter with approximately 250 thousand downloads and ended with 130 thousand, marking a downward trend. The app's weekly active users also decreased from 6 million at the start of the quarter to around 4 million by the end.
Google Maps Go experienced a similar trend in downloads, starting the quarter with over 80 thousand and closing it with just over 60 thousand. The weekly active users followed suit, dropping from 6 million to approximately 4 million by the end of March.
Google Earth had a steadier performance in terms of downloads, beginning with nearly 40 thousand and ending with around 40 thousand as well. Weekly active users saw a slight increase, starting at approximately 260 thousand and growing to over 300 thousand by the quarter's conclusion.
For GPS, Maps, Voice Navigation, downloads saw a decrease from around 35 thousand to 8 thousand, while weekly active users started at 80 thousand and ended with approximately 38 thousand. The app generated minimal revenue throughout the quarter, starting with $214 and ending with $76.
Lastly, Navigation for Google Maps Go downloads decreased from 8 thousand to nearly 5 thousand, with weekly active users also experiencing a decline, from 22 thousand to just under 16 thousand.
