In the first quarter of 2021, Australians showed significant engagement with personal finance applications. Here's a snapshot of how the top 5 budgeting and planning apps fared in this period, according to data from Sensor Tower.
YNAB (You Need A Budget) saw its downloads begin at around 1K in the last week of December and gradually decrease to under 300 by the end of March. Weekly active users started at nearly 3K and dipped slightly to just over 2K, while revenue peaked at over $4K in the last week of December and had a notable spike to approximately $4K again in the last week of January.
MoneyBrilliant, an Australian-born app, hit its highest revenue in late January at over $4K, with other weeks generally fluctuating between around $1K and $3K. Downloads started strong at around 2.7K and showed a declining trend, ending at about 1.5K in the final week of March. Unfortunately, the weekly active users' data for MoneyBrilliant was not provided.
The Spendee Money & Budget Planner saw its revenue peak at nearly $3K in the first week of January, with the lowest at just under $1K at the start of February. Downloads had a high of over 1.8K in early January, dropping to around 300 by the end of March. Weekly active users showed a high of nearly 4.8K at the start of the year, declining to around 3.3K by quarter's end.
Buddy: Budget Planner App experienced its highest revenue in mid-January at over $3K, with a significant drop to just under $300 by the end of March. Downloads reflected a peak of over 1.2K in early January, decreasing to about 700 by the end of March. Weekly active users started at around 800 and showed a modest increase to slightly over 1.3K in early March, before ending the quarter at around 1.2K.
Lastly, Splitwise showed a consistent revenue trend, with a high of just under $1K in the first week of February. Downloads were strong, starting at over 4.7K and maintaining above 2K for most of the quarter. The app's weekly active users were impressive, beginning at over 19K and, despite some fluctuation, finishing strong at nearly 18K in the last week of March.
