In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top utilities applications in South Africa demonstrated diverse performance metrics in terms of weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. The data comes from Sensor Tower, providing insightful trends for the period.
Google exhibited a consistent weekly download pattern, starting at around 6.2K and slightly fluctuating throughout the quarter. The highest downloads were observed in mid-December with approximately 7.2K. Active users remained steady, hovering around 15M, with a minor dip to 14.9M towards the end of December.
Truecaller: Caller ID Blocker from True Software Scandinavia AB showed a varied trend in weekly downloads, peaking at 53.8K in mid-October and dropping to 31.8K by the end of December. Weekly revenue peaked at around $30.1K in late October but saw a decline to approximately $15.8K by mid-December. Active users fluctuated between 3.5M and 3.6M, with a slight decrease towards the quarter's end.
Google Chrome maintained a relatively stable weekly download trend, ranging from 5.8K in late September to around 5.7K by the end of December. The active user base remained robust, averaging around 18.5M, with minor fluctuations throughout the quarter.
VPN Protector & Proxy from Shargo Enterprise LTD experienced modest weekly downloads, peaking at 3.1K in early December. The app's revenue showed an upward trend reaching approximately $3.8K in mid-December before declining to about $1.9K by the end of the month. Active users grew steadily from 7.9K at the start of the quarter to around 10.9K by mid-December, before declining to 9.4K at the end.
Load Shedding Notifier by Abisoft Inc. saw significant variations in weekly downloads, peaking at 65.6K in early November and dropping to 1.6K by the end of December. Revenue saw a peak of $229 in early November but dropped to $47 by the end of December. Active users peaked at 182K in early November, with a gradual decline to around 79K toward the end of the quarter.
