During the first quarter of 2022, the top 5 travel and local apps on the Android platform in the United States showed varied performance trends. Data from Sensor Tower reveals the weekly downloads and active users for these apps, providing a clear picture of their market presence.
Upside: Cash Back - Gas & Food saw notable fluctuations in weekly downloads. Starting at around 104K downloads in late December, the app experienced a dip in January, with downloads dropping to approximately 69K by mid-month. However, a significant upward trend emerged in March, peaking at about 221K in the week of March 7. Weekly active users mirrored this trend, rising from around 882K at the end of December to a peak of 1.17M in early March before settling at 864K by the end of the quarter.
Vrbo Vacation Rentals displayed a consistent performance in weekly downloads, starting at around 83K and reaching a peak of approximately 102K in late February. The app maintained a steady number of weekly active users, fluctuating slightly but ending the quarter at about 1.11M, up from 1.08M at the beginning.
Hopper: Hotels, Flights & Cars experienced a stable download rate throughout Q1, starting at around 88K and peaking at approximately 100K in late February. The app's weekly active users also showed a steady increase, rising from about 438K at the end of December to nearly 496K by the end of March.
Booking.com: Hotels & Travel saw a significant rise in weekly downloads over the quarter. Downloads started at around 71K in late December, gradually increasing to a peak of approximately 124K by the end of March. The app's weekly active users followed a similar upward trend, growing from around 1.02M in late December to approximately 1.14M by the end of the quarter.
GasBuddy: Find & Pay for Gas exhibited a dramatic surge in downloads in early March, peaking at around 313K. This followed a steady increase from around 20K in late December. Weekly active users also saw a substantial rise, from roughly 377K at the end of December to a peak of about 1.18M in early March, before decreasing to around 682K by the end of the quarter.
