During the first quarter of 2022, the top 5 social networking apps in Italy—WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram Messenger, Facebook, Messenger, and noteit - best friends widget—showed varied performance trends in downloads, revenue, and active users.
WhatsApp Messenger saw a notable fluctuation in weekly downloads, starting the quarter with 134K and experiencing a dip to 82K by early March. However, downloads surged again to 119K in the week of March 21. The app consistently maintained high active user numbers, growing from 30.6M at the beginning of January to 31.1M by the end of March.
Telegram Messenger exhibited a relatively steady download trend with a peak of 111K in early January and another spike to 110K in late February. Active user numbers fluctuated slightly, starting at 10.8M and peaking at 11.7M in mid-March before settling at 11.4M by the end of the quarter.
Facebook experienced a consistent weekly revenue, ranging between approximately $19K and $27K. Downloads showed a gradual decline from 88K in late December to around 60K in early March, with a slight rebound to 68K towards the end of the quarter. Active users remained robust, fluctuating around 25M to 26M throughout the period.
Messenger had modest weekly revenue, generally staying below $500, with a small peak of $525 in early February. Downloads trended downwards from 70K in late December to about 48K in early March, with a slight increase to 59K by the end of March. Active users saw a minor decline from 18.2M in late December to 17.4M by the end of the quarter.
noteit - best friends widget showed a dramatic rise in downloads, starting from 150 in mid-January and peaking at 150K in mid-February. Downloads then tapered off to 10K by the end of March. Active users mirrored this trend, growing from 149 to a peak of 237K in late February before stabilizing around 149K by the end of the quarter.
