In the fourth quarter of 2022, the top five insurance applications on a unified platform in South Africa exhibited diverse performance trends. This analysis, powered by Sensor Tower, provides insights into weekly downloads and active user metrics for Discovery, OUTsurance, Clientèle, Santam app, and Naked Insurance.
Discovery saw a fluctuating download trend, beginning with 6.6K downloads in late September and peaking at 7.4K in early October. By the end of December, downloads had decreased to around 5.7K. Weekly active users for Discovery were relatively consistent, peaking at 73.8K in mid-October and ending the quarter at approximately 69.6K.
OUTsurance experienced a steady download rate, starting at 2.8K in late September and reaching a high of 3.2K in late October. The downloads then tapered to 1.9K by the end of December. The app's active user count mirrored this trend, starting at 6.9K and ending the quarter with 5.9K users.
Clientèle had a consistent download performance, with numbers ranging from 2.3K to 2.8K throughout the quarter. Active users for Clientèle remained stable, fluctuating between 18.7K and 19.9K, peaking towards the end of December.
Santam app showed a significant spike in downloads during mid-November, jumping from 347 to 3.9K, and peaking at 6.4K in late November. Another surge was observed in mid-December, with downloads reaching 5.2K by the end of the month.
Naked Insurance displayed varied download rates, starting at 2K in late September, dropping to 1.4K in late October, and then rising again to 2.6K by mid-December. The downloads concluded at approximately 2K in the final week of December.
