In Q1 2023, the top five social networking apps in Africa showcased diverse performance metrics across downloads, revenue, and active users. Here's a closer look at the trends for each app:
Tango - Live Stream, Go Live from TangoMe, Inc. experienced fluctuating weekly revenue, peaking at around $38K in the week of February 20. Weekly downloads reached a high of 49K in mid-February, while active users saw a high of 592K in the same period, eventually declining to 473K by the end of March.
BIGO LIVE-Live Stream, Go Live by BIGO TECHNOLOGY PTE. LTD. saw its highest weekly revenue of approximately $57K in late January. Downloads peaked at 179K during the same time, while active users maintained a relatively stable range between 1.4M and 1.5M throughout the quarter.
Azar: Video Chat & Meet People from Hyperconnect LLC showed a weekly revenue increase to about $13K in early March. Downloads fluctuated, peaking at 71K in mid-March. Active users saw a gradual rise from 346K in mid-January to around 387K in mid-March before stabilizing at approximately 333K by the end of the quarter.
Dingtone: Phone Calls + Texts from Sixapps Limited had its highest weekly revenue of $11K in early January. Weekly downloads peaked at 19K in mid-March, while active users increased from 76K in late December to around 105K by mid-March.
Grindr - Gay Dating & Chat by Grindr LLC reported a peak weekly revenue of about $9.7K in late December. Downloads maintained a steady range, peaking at around 13K in mid-February. Active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 310K and 335K throughout the quarter.
