In Q2 2023, the top tax preparation and planning apps in the United States showed varied performance across weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at the trends for TurboTax: File Your Tax Return, IRS2Go, MyBlock, H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes, and Keeper: tax filing & expenses.
TurboTax: File Your Tax Return from Intuit Inc. saw a notable increase in weekly downloads early in the quarter, peaking at around 292K in mid-April. This spike was mirrored by a high in weekly active users, reaching approximately 1.4M in the same period. Weekly revenue showed a steady trend, hovering between $13K and $20K, with a peak of $20K in late May.
IRS2Go from the Internal Revenue Service experienced a peak in weekly downloads of about 90K in mid-April. Active users remained relatively stable throughout the quarter, averaging around 1.7M to 2M. Despite not generating revenue, the app maintained a strong presence in terms of user engagement.
MyBlock by HRB Tax Group, Inc. saw its highest weekly downloads at approximately 66K in early April. Active users peaked at around 151K during the same timeframe, but declined steadily to about 67K by the end of June.
H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes, another app from HRB Tax Group, Inc., experienced its highest weekly downloads at approximately 27K in mid-April. Weekly active users peaked at about 24K during the same period. Revenue was minimal with occasional peaks, the highest being $15K in late March.
Keeper: tax filing & expenses by Keeper Tax Inc. maintained a steady trend in weekly downloads and active users. Downloads peaked at around 7.5K in early April, while active users hovered around 18K to 20K throughout the quarter.
