In the third quarter of 2023, the iOS platform in Europe saw significant activity among the top navigation and maps applications. Data from Sensor Tower reveals the performance trends for the top five apps: Google Maps, Waze Navigation & Live Traffic, Yandex Maps & Navigator, Google Earth, and 2GIS: Offline Map & Navigation.
Google Maps maintained its dominance with weekly downloads peaking at approximately 1.1M in late July. However, downloads saw a gradual decline towards the end of the quarter, dipping to around 728K by late September. Active users remained relatively stable, starting from roughly 75M in late June and ending the quarter slightly lower at 73M.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced fluctuating download numbers, beginning the quarter with around 202K and peaking at 281K in mid-August. Active users also showed variability, reaching a high of 14M in mid-August before decreasing to 12.5M by the end of September.
Yandex Maps & Navigator saw consistent weekly revenue, averaging around $3K. Downloads peaked at 115K in late August before tapering off to 73K by the end of the quarter. Active users increased steadily, starting from 2.7M and reaching a peak of 3M in late August.
Google Earth maintained stable download figures, averaging around 90K per week. Active users showed some decline, starting at approximately 755K in late June and falling to 674K by the end of September.
Lastly, 2GIS: Offline Map & Navigation experienced a peak in downloads of around 99K in late July, but saw a decline to about 48K by the end of the quarter. Active users remained relatively stable, starting at around 1.4M and briefly peaking at 1.5M in late August.
