2026 State of Mobile is Live!

In Q3 2023, the top five social apps in Africa—TikTok, Facebook Lite, Instagram, Threads, and Bigo Live - Live Streaming App—demonstrated significant movements in weekly downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s a closer look at their performance:
TikTok saw a mixed trend in weekly revenue, peaking at around $428K in early July and stabilizing at approximately $265K by the end of September. Downloads surged from 1.3M in July to nearly 1.9M in late August, with active users maintaining a steady presence around 43M throughout the quarter.
Facebook Lite experienced an impressive rise in weekly revenue, hitting a high of $29K in mid-September. Weekly downloads consistently grew, starting at 1M and reaching 1.35M by the end of the quarter. Active users also showed a positive trend, increasing from 138M in late June to nearly 143M in September.
Instagram displayed a strong performance in weekly revenue, especially in mid-September when it spiked to about $52K. Downloads remained robust, fluctuating between 793K and 1M, while active users hovered around 41.7M throughout the period.
Threads, despite being a newcomer, showed a dynamic trend in downloads, starting with over 4M in early July and stabilizing around 159K by late September. Active users saw fluctuations, peaking at 3.5M initially and settling at approximately 1.76M by the end of the quarter.
Bigo Live - Live Streaming App maintained a steady weekly revenue around $13K to $19K. Downloads grew from 147K to 184K mid-quarter and then slightly dropped to 139K by the end of September. Active users remained stable, averaging around 1.5M throughout the quarter.
