As the year 2023 came to a close, the music and podcast app industry in Europe saw varied performances among the leading applications. Sensor Tower's data provides a glimpse into the trends of downloads, revenue, and weekly active users for these digital platforms.

Deezer: Music Player, Podcast experienced a fluctuating quarter with its revenue peaking at nearly $1.4M in the last week of September and tapering off to around $1.2M by the year's end. Downloads for Deezer showed an upward trend, leaping from 67K in late September to over 100K in the final week of December. Weekly active users for Deezer also saw growth, starting at 8.3M and reaching a high of 9.2M in early November before settling at 8.4M towards the quarter’s end.

Spotify - Music and Podcasts maintained a steady revenue stream, starting at around $900K and climbing to over $1.2M in late November, before slightly declining to just under $1.1M by Christmas. Downloads showed some volatility but ended on a high note, with a significant jump from 732K to nearly 1M between late September and December. The app's weekly active users saw a gradual increase from 106.9M to a peak of 114.7M, followed by a slight dip to 108.3M by the end of the quarter.

YouTube Music saw its revenue hover around $700K to $800K, with a notable spike to $862K in late November. Downloads for the app were relatively stable, with a noticeable increase from 227K to 340K by the quarter’s conclusion. Weekly active users started at 54.2M, peaked at 60.2M in late November, and ended at 56.9M.

Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts had a revenue that generally ranged from $540K to $620K, showing a slight upward trend in the latter part of the quarter. Downloads for Amazon Music were consistent, with a spike to 259K in the last week of December. The app's weekly active users remained fairly stable, with a slight increase from 3.9M to just over 3.9M throughout the quarter.

SoundCloud: Discover New Music also saw variable revenue figures, starting at around $460K and experiencing peaks and troughs before ending at a similar mark in December. Downloads for SoundCloud were steady, with a moderate increase from 187K to 199K. The weekly active users for SoundCloud showed a slight decline from 19.8M to 19.2M by the end of Q4.
